Lures bass fishing can be a good way to catch bass if you know the correct lures to use and where bass like to live. A bass will actually strike a lure for several reasons as it may be due to agitation, defending its territory, an instinctual reaction, or they are hungry or think that they are hungry.
Most fish probably strike because they are hungry or an instinct they have as there is a very small window when a fish has a nest and is protecting a specific spot.
Most bass prefer to prey upon shad though what they eat will generally depend on the time of year. However there are different types of shad and if you are tracking schools of shad to find bass than remember to look at the size of the individual fish. Many times bass will change their food source form shad as some will eat carp or minnows. Bass will forage for any number of things when they are hungry and if they find a good feeding spot they will keep coming back to that spot.
When picking your lure think about what will be found along the bottom of the lake that the bass will eat. Before spawning bass tend to like to eat crayfish but there are also tadpoles and other amphibians and reptiles. The best lures that resemble these creatures are those that are made of soft plastics and tend to be called jig-n-pig styles. A slow falling lure tends to act like a bream or wounded shad.
Most of the time you will be fishing for those bass that are loners or in a group of two. Many times fishing near vegetation or a stump is a good idea as bass like to have some type of cover. Most of the time these loner fish will strike your lure purely as an instinctual gesture.
